SK(INK) TALES

PERFORMANCE. INSTALLATION ON SOUND EXPERIMENTATION AND TATTOO

Installation: Synthetic Skin canvas, Tattoo Needle, Speakers, Tattoo materials.

Sk(ink) Tales is an interactive installation. Above the first prototype and first tests of an everchanging project. The final product is a collective work from the spectator who takes the role of a tattoo artist and musician. As participants take on the dual roles, they engage in a playful yet profound exploration of creation and impermanence. By applying pressure with the tattoo needle on the skin canvas, they not only leave behind a tangible mark but also trigger the production of unique and irrepetible soundscapes through the speakers. Each interaction becomes a collaborative act, where the physicality of tattooing merges with the auditory realm, blurring the boundaries between art forms.

There is a childlike wander in making simple designs about particular memories that contrasts with the inherent risks of working with a real needle, the duality between this innocence and danger is also an interesting aspect of this project.

This project has infinite possibilities and the idea is to create a collection of different collaborations trapped in time and onto the canvas, which can be changed on each installation.

This first prototype was completed under the collective exposition "We are all guests #13" commissioned by B.a.d Foundation under the South Explorer Rotterdam 2024 festival.
